Gelli Plate Giveaway

I'm excited about Gelli plates! It is a newer kind of printing plate that you can use to create monotypes right at home! It is made from a polymer material. It works well with acrylic paint and cleans up easily. Read more about it here:  http://www.gelliarts.com/pages/faq#sixteen.  There are great video tutorials on the Gelli Arts blog as well as YouTube.
Think of the possibilities.........your own prints, collage, journal pages/covers, fine arts.......your imagination is the limit!

I will be GIVING AWAY one 6" x 6" Gelli plate on my blog October 25th! All you need to do to enter this giveaway is to leave a comment why you want a Gelli plate and what you would do with it. Winner chosen at random and will be notified. The actual Gelli plate will be shipped to you from Gelli Arts.

So let's have some FUN and create Gelli prints!!!

East Meets West

It was a fortunate day when I met artist Christine Phelps via an Ebay transaction some 10 plus years ago. We both admired each other's work, but were timid to communicate. One day I decided to send her an email praising her folk art that I coveted on the computer screen. Once we made contact, we never have stopped talking. Having long phone conversations about art and creative process take up a lot of minutes and there is still time for the stuff of good friends. This friendship is one of my life's great treasures from California (Sharon) to Connecticut (Christine).

We have been tossing around the idea of collaborating for awhile now. This is our first piece together! I am SO excited about the possibilities of two perfectionists putting their creative hats on and going for the gusto.

I work in clay, paint, and like to bead. Christine works in just about everything from paint to spun cotton and does it well. She is developing her surface designs and patterns, so watch out! We hope you like our new work and look forward to more in the future.

This piece is available in my Etsy shop!

What's Cookin'

I’m posting this picture to dispel any visions you may have of my glamorous studio space.  For the last 27 years and still going, I have created my art from small spaces. Although I would love to have more space to create, I have made it work and work I do in my kitchen most days. Counters become just another surface to pile stuff in progress, and tabletops are another venue for ideas left over. Sometimes I like to peek into those fun magazines that feature artists’ studio spaces that appear so tidy and color coded and delightfully embellished in ribbons and cool artifacts. I wonder if they are really that organized after the camera has left the scene. For me, it’s about the creative experience. I could potentially create anywhere as this picture suggests. Perhaps one day, I will be fortunate enough to be able to combine my many supplies and projects and put them into one place with easy access. I would like that. So, if you are waiting to create your masterpiece or start your life’s work if and when you get that perfect niche, wait no longer. Today is the day!
